Support Group for Grandparents Taking Off in Northampton
A support group set up to help grandparents who have little or no contact with their grandchildren is gaining support in Northampton.
Founder Marion Turner, originally started a group in Milton Keynes following a difficult family situation that meant she lost contact with her grandson over two years ago.
I have been amazed at how many grandparents find themselves in situations where, very often through no fault of their own, they lose contact, or sometimes access to their grandchildren’ Marion goes on to say ‘The idea of the group isn’t to solve the grandparent's problems but, an opportunity for them to meet others in similar situations and share what they are going through.
The meetings are very informal but, guests include speakers from organisations such as the Samaritans, MIND and Solicitors who can advise on grandparents legal rights. The group is supported by local MP’s and Iain Stewart MP is the groups Patron. One of the aims of the group is to get a Bill passed in Parliament giving grandparents’ more rights.
Monthly meetings are held at the Turnpike Beefeater Harpole. To find out more visit the website: www.granpart.co.uk or call Marion on: 07842146637.
