Sandra called into Heathers for a coffee and mentioned she was on her way to the Guildhall for a tour,
Being the cheeky chap I am I asked if I could tag along as I have a long-standing interest in local history, And I am very glad I did, Kate Wills was a mine of information, and she passed this on in a very informative and fun way. We were told about the history of Northampton Guildhall and its relation to Northampton from the middle ages to date.
It was astonishing to discover the Stars and Stripes in the National Flag of the United States of America had its history based in Northampton.
We saw the great hall and its stained glass, and paintings by the celebrated war artist Colin Gill,And then visited the bowels of the building and saw the cells and heard about the infamous Blazing Car Murderer Alfred Rouse.
All in all a delightful trip and one worth doing again.
Kate does lots of local history talks and if anyone would like to hear about these contact Sandra at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01604 718098
